Are you
considered “the alternative bride” in your family? If you are anything like me, this may be the
perfect description for you. I didn’t
want a bright white dress, and I certainly didn’t want to get married in a
church. I could tell my family was quite
surprised by some of my personal choices.
When I announced that I was going to have my wedding in the middle of a
museum, they were shocked. Though they
quickly got used to the idea, the dress debate was another topic of concern for
my mother.
I love to crochet. It is my favorite hobby. Not only do I crochet to pass time, I also
love to make gifts for friends and family.
I wanted to display my love for crochet in some way, so I took it upon
myself to look for crochet dress patterns.
The alternative bride would probably do anything in their power to make
sure that this dream became a reality. I,
on the other hand, have difficulty even making sure all of the household work
is complete with a two-year-old to raise and my spoiled fiancé never lifting a
finger. That is the way we like to run
our household. As alternative as I am,
some are surprised to find that I convey the 1950’s housewife approach to
family life. Needless to say, the dress
quickly became an overwhelming project that seemed to never end. I went dress shopping with my sister and
mother, and I was able to find a dress that was modern with just enough vintage
flare for me to fall in love with it.
After this change of mind, I still didn’t give up hope of displaying my
crocheting love and talents.

I realized that a crochet flower was
something I could simply make in under a half hour. I began making my crochet bouquets. After completing the three needed for my own
wedding, I was addicted to constructing these works of art. I decided to open an Etsy store to share my
creations with others that may be considered the alternative bride of their
